The Latest Advances in Filter Design and Technology

8th April 2021 Holm Truths

The world around us is constantly changing.  Every day, innovative development and technological advancement means that if the filters you are using are not incorporating the latest technology they are simply not performing as well as they could and should be.

Holm is dedicated to utilising the latest advances within the filter industry, meaning you can be confident that your parts are working at peak performance. Put simply, a better filtration system means longer life, less downtime and a better return on your equipment investment.

Advances in Filtration Technology

We have all seen the news reports. Carbon emissions and the effects they have on people and the planet are a constant talking point.  As climate change becomes a more dominant issue, so too will be the ways that we work to reduce and capture these emissions.  The most scrutinised part of the engine will soon be the filtration system. Fuel, oil and air all play a huge part in the emissions of machinery.

Filters and filtration systems may look similar to their predecessors, but performance has seen some serious improvement. This has been achieved by advances in glass fibre technology, meaning the filter media not only holds more particulate, dirt and dust, but also maintain the same working pressures. The ultra-fine fibres ensure the best possible pore volume and create a greater capacity for dirt and dust absorption.

Liquid filtration is another area where innovation has allowed us to advance. Cartridges are the traditional means of removing solids from liquids. Development in polymer and fibre technology, non-woven media and membrane materials, combined with further advances in filtration testing equipment, means that we are constantly raising the bar on what’s achievable in this field.

Oil filters now have media constructed from synthetic fibres, that can also interact with soot and biodiesel. Our advanced filters feature thinner fibres and, smoother surfaces with a limited degree of soot gel adhesion and a higher index of permeability, meaning a lower drop in pressure of the engine’s vital oil system. The exact sizing of these cartridges means the highest efficiency can be achieved and prevents filter clogs, allowing your engines to work harder and longer in their applications.

Allergens and Cabin Filters

Site safety is paramount. Did you know that Nitrogen Dioxide from other machinery on a site can make its way into cabins? A recent study from ADAC  (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club, Europe's largest motoring association) has shown that an activated carbon filtration system can not only keep your vehicle cabin clear from solid pollutants such as sand, dust and diesel soot, but also significantly reduces the gaseous pollutants, such as hydrocarbons, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide.

Our latest generation of non-carbon cabin air filters are designed to remove the smallest of particles and allergens from the incoming air.  These high-efficiency filters can retain low-micron particulates and toxic gases, during the desired life, with an efficiency ratio expected to be 99.9% or higher, so helping to protect your workforce against pollutants and alleviating the risk of lung disorders.

Using Non-Manufacturer Filters

Holm filters are made to the same rigorous specifications as those in original equipment manufacturers own filtration systems. Whilst there are some filter manufacturers that produce copy filter elements, which potentially have only a short operational lifespan compared to OE parts, this is not the case with Holm.  All of our Holm brand filters undergo strenuous and rigorous testing to ensure all of the components match the design and performance of the original part, both in dirt / dust trapping capacity and filter performance.

Holm Innovations

Not only do we strive to utilise the latest technology to create the best filters for your fleet, but we have also developed an innovative, intelligent way for you to order your parts too.  Our online Filter Finder is an intelligent, easy-to-use solution to identify the filters you need. Simply select your machine from our extensive list, choose your model and pick your part.  It really is that simple.  No more searching through service manuals to find part numbers, although we do have that search facility too, saving you valuable time.

We also offer filter kits that make servicing your vehicle so much easier, with everything you need to keep your machinery in peak condition. We keep thousands of filters in stock, meaning you can be confident that we have the part to keep you working. We can even assemble a filter kit to your exact requirement. Remember, Holm is where the part is.
